I’ve been searching off and on for a new(er) YZ125 for about the last year now, and have been waffling back and forth as to whether I really needed one, or if I should just hold on to the one I already had. Well, I finally gave in to temptation and purchased a rare find I found on Craigslist.
After scouring the Craigslist listing for a solid two months, I finally found this little gem in Denver and emailed the seller the day it came up. It turned out to be (slightly) used by a 13 year-old boy, and just putted around on. It was listed as an ’07, but I realized it was an ’06 after I purchased the bike. No matter—the changes between the years are fairly insignificant.
After clearing the news with “The Warden”, I was granted a green light to go pick up the bike. It turned out to be a balls-to-the-walls trip, where I left Durango at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, arrived in the Denver area around 8:00 a.m., picked up the bike and motored home. Other than the $113 ticked it received from the State Patrol just outside of Saguache, the trip went fairly smooth. I made it back to Durango at about 3:00 p.m. and was in bed by 8:00.
After unloading the bike and examining it more closely, I realized it really had almost no hours on it, and what little it did have must have been very light. The tell-tale spooge dripping down the FMF silencer, and the drippings out of the midpipe joint were a sure sign the bike had never really been ridden “on the pipe.” And the cases looked almost new. For $2,000, I couldn’t be happier.
So, next step is to take it out and see how it rides. I can’t wait to see how the newer bike compares!
Happy trails – Chris
