As beautiful as the desert is, I’ve gotten kinda burned out on riding the same terrain for the last 6 months. So I decided it was time to check out the high country trails in my backyard. Here’s one of my favorite sections of Dutch Creek Trail, just north of Durango.
The first ride of the season around Durango is always a crapshoot. The trails are usually littered with deadfall from the spring winds and whatever remaining snowfields that have yet to melt. But other than a fairly substantial snowslide that loaded a section of trail with debris, the trail was almost clear.
The upper section of Dutch still has some thawing to do, but a couple of 80° days will clear up the remaining snow fields. All in all, it’s nice to be able to ride the alpine trails again, and get into some rocks and trees, rather than sand and sage.
Happy trails – Chris
